In a ceremonial reception, the Kosovo Foundation for Open Society marked the donation of 100,000 COVID-19 tests to the Kosovo government. In September, Open Society Foundations pledged 1.5 million dollars to purchase 100,000 RT PCR test kits for COVID. Produced in the European Union, the donated test kits include tests and chemicals allowing for the Kosovo public institutions to diagnose COVID-19. The donation is part of larger COVID-19 relief efforts of the global network of the Open Society Foundations.

At the Ministry of Health, Minister Armend Zemaj and the Executive Director of Kosovo Foundation for Open Society Luan Shllaku addressed the media. Zemaj thanked the Foundation and its founder George Soros for this generous donation.

“This donation is a valuable contribution in increasing the testing capacities for diagnosing COVID-19 infections in Kosovo,” said Minister Zemaj.

Meanwhile, KFOS director Mr. Shllaku said that the donation was quite remarkable considering it is a donation from a single philanthropist, Mr. George Soros.

“Mr. Geroge Soros has helped Kosovo for three decades, assisting in critical moments of its development and has distributed donations worth over 50 million dollars to build civil society and democratic institutions,” said Mr. Shllaku.
